What is eip/REP?

how does a student qualify?

“The purpose of the Early Intervention Program or EIP (K-5) is to provide additional resources to help students who are performing below grade level to obtain the necessary academic skills in order to reach grade level performance in the shortest time possible.

The Remedial Education Program or REP (6-8) is an instructional program designed for students in grades 6-12 who have identified deficiencies in reading, writing, or math.
At Brighten Academy, a student's eligibility is determined through their MAPS scores, Georgia Milestone Scores, and/or through a teacher referral using the state issued EIP rubric (only grades K-5).  For more information on the rubrics used, please visit the following website:
EIP Rubrics

how long does the program last?

Who is teaching the classes?

Students must be moved into EIP, provided with academic assistance, and then moved out of EIP upon reaching grade level performance. Students placed in the EIP must be given a formative assessment that will reflect achievement gains throughout the academic year. We will evaluate every 6 weeks to determine if services are still needed. When it is determined that a student has reached their set goals, they will be exited from the program.

EIP must be staffed by certified teachers. All teachers involved with Brighten's EIP and Enrichment programs are certified, veteran teachers.  These teachers meet with their students' grade level teachers weekly to address progress and needs to make sure everyone is on the same page. Reading classes K-8 are taught by Amy Witcher, with Molly Ramsay teaching 6th.

When will students be served?

additional information

Students schedules will vary.  However, all EIP and Enrichment classes will be held during regularly scheduled specials/connections.  This helps to avoid students missing much needed classroom instruction on grade level standards.
